Women’s Leadership Program Offers Self Defense Classes


Have you ever wanted to learn more about how to defend yourself? Join the Chamber's Women's Leadership Program for a special hands-on self-defense course, designed to teach you a variety of martial arts skills, as well as situational awareness, assessment and decision making. Important information for any woman, the class is open to all levels and will be led by experienced local instructors. You won't regret it!

Dates: Tuesdays, 7:30-8:30p.m. or Saturdays, 9-10a.m.
Location: Academy of Martial Arts Studies, 401 E. Sandusky St.

About the Instructors:
Classes will be lead by Hanshi Kevin Cullen and Sensei Jim Zellner.  Hanshi Cullen has been studying and teaching Goju Ryu Karate as well as other martial arts for nearly 40 years and holds advanced black belt ranking in Karate, Jujitsu and Judo.  Hanshi Cullen is well respected in martial arts circles and is a frequent guest on the national Mixed Martial Arts radio show MMA OutLoud, and is a technical advisor to a WSJ staff writer in Atlanta.  Additionally, he has performed bodyguard duties for Arnold Schwarzenegger and Wesley Snipes, and serves as Master of Ceremonies at the Arnold Martial Arts Sports Festival held annually in Columbus. 

Sensei Jim Zellner has been studying and teaching martial arts for over 7 years and is a 1st degree black belt.  Sensei Zellner has trained in wrestling, Goju Ryu karate, Tai Chi, Five Hands System, Okinawan weapons and self defense.

Additional Course Information:
• Each class will include stretching, light aerobic workout, review, introduction of a new skill and repetitions.

• The Course is open to anyone over the age of 12 years.
Wear loose fitting clothes… be comfortable with the ability to move without restriction.

• Attendance to all five classes is strongly recommended since each class will build off one another, but not required.  There will be review and repetition in all classes.
